Let's celebrate Leonia Kurgan's memoir "A Crowd of One" Leonia Kurgan completed and published her memoir, A Crowd of One, about her life in Poland fleeing the Nazis, growing up in South Africa and now living in Los Angeles. Some of us who travelled to Poland together in 2015 enjoyed the evening in Bialystok when she shared a tiny bit of her memoir. Now the book is out and available. To RSVP call 310-286-9991
  • Wednesday October 19, 2016 7:30 pm. Gala Musical Celebration of Jewish Renewal in Poland Cantor David Wisnia, the 90-year-old Warsaw native and survivor of the Nazi horrors will be joined by his grandson Avi Wisnia, an award-winning composer, singer, and performer. The program will also include contributions from two musical representatives of the Jewish renewal taking place today in Poland, Cantorial Solists Rivka Iza Foremniak and Menachem Piotr Mirski from the Progressive Jewish community, Beit Polska.   • Saturday October 22, 2016 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Jewish Culture Through Music & Memories This celebration showcases 90-year-old survivor of Auschwitz concentration camp, Cantor David S. Wisnia. Wisnia’s grandson, singersongwriter and pianist Avi Wisnia, joins his grandfather onstage. The program features two visiting cantorial soloists, Rivka Iza Foremniak and Menachem Piotr Mirski from the renewed Progressive Jewish community, Beit Polska in Poland. Cantor Mike Stein, of Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills, is internationally celebrated for his musical talent and energy. Rabbi Haim Beliak will talk about his recent visit to Poland. A number of interesting developments in the community's life include the enrollment of the largest Introduction to Judaism class in 22 years. Rabbi Beliak interviewed all 25 members of the class. This is the second year that the class is being taught entirely in Polish. The successful premiere of the film "Bogdan's Journey". The upcoming publication of Louise Steinman's "The Crooked Mirror: A Memoir of Polish - Jewish Reconciliation". Plans include the publication of several doctoral dissertations, concerts with two of Beit Polska's twelve prayer leaders and many more. We will practice 3 different types of short meditations and subsequently work on writing/re-writing our own individual Kavannah's (Intentionality’s), to manifest our personal "Promised Land" in our respective lives. Beit Polska: A Wonderful Summer of Jewish Life's Growth in Poland On August 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the "Valley" we will host an evening for you to meet some wonderful people who visited and worked with the Progressive (Reform and Conservative) Jewish communities in Poland. This was an exciting summer and we are making plans for an even more exciting coming year. OUR TEACHERS AND LEADERS Dr. Dominika Zakrzewska is the program coordinator for all Beit Polska programs and events. She teaches in our Step by Step program and coordinates our children's programs. She coordinates seminars and special programs. She lives in Warsaw. Cindy Paley and her husband Herzel Aboudy visited Poland this summer. Cindy's concerts (8) and workshops (12) were a big hit at the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow Cindy performed in concerts in Warsaw, Gdansk, Kielce, Lublin and Zielona Gora together withour 12 prayer leaders. Dr. Menachem Mirski is returning to begin Rabbinical School at American Jewish University. Mirski participated in many concerts in Poland this summer with Cindy Paley. Nedda Black a new board member of the 501c3 organization that supports Beit Polska through Friends of Jewish Renewal in Poland attended special seminar sponsored by the Los Angeles Polish Consul General along with other educational leaders from Los Angeles. Hazzan Michael Stein who met with the prayer leaders and held a concert in Kazimierz Dolny. Cantor Stein has been the main stay of the prayer leader training program at Beit Polska. Rabbi Avi Havivi who taught and led services at the Krakow Music Festival and completed his third visit to Poland. Rabbi-in-training Mati Kirschenbaum from the Geiger Rabbinic Kollege in Berlin who served as a the student rabbi to Beit Polska. (will not attend but may Skype in for a few minutes) Rabbi Haim Beliak who met and interviewed each of the 25 candidates for conversion as well as leading a tour from Beth Shalom in Atlanta. Rabbi Alan Iser taught at Beit Centrum Kee Tov. (will not attend but might skype in for few minutes.) Rabbi Walter Rothschild who is visiting rabbi of Beit Warsawa this coming year. (will not attend but may skype in for a few minutes.) We are proud to be translating his book "The Honey and The Sting" to Polish. We have now 10 communities through out Poland.
